This one sold on BAT back in 2019 for $55k. I think it will pick up some steam beyond that price with the market today. The engine paint looks almost too nice for a survivor with over 100K miles on it. (The Super Chevy article mentions that the car had 113k miles on it when it was written in 1981, so that is assuming that this was correct.) At the very least, the exhaust manifolds were repainted. Still, a nicely optioned, rare car in exceptional original condition. If it was a 4-speed, I would be seriously interested.

Great options as well as color combo with white Dlx. and fold down with headrests! Great driver car - you can get groceries or run the kids to the neighborhood pool.
I'm partial... My mom drove a red 67 Camaro conv for the majority of my youth... it was at all the soccer and baseball games all over the entire 3 counties of the upstate.

I was seriously tempted by this Camaro, it is very much my kind of car! I talked myself out of bidding thinking it would bid beyond the 2019 sale.

One of the bidders waited until the last seconds (sniping...or trying to?) and bid $55,000 but it didn't register.
![]() Look at the comments The car hasn't changed a whole lot since 1981. I always wondered if the black air cleaner lid with the 396 was correct (Shown in the magazine photos)...or if it should have been chrome...like my brothers? Granted, we bought the Air cleaner and wheel well molding at Cone Chevrolet in 1979/1980...and all were pretty cheap with my discount for working at Hardin Olds...

I have always loved this Camaro...though I remember it having a black air cleaner top with the 396 logo...
A buddy of mine sent me this photo of the car taken back in the early 80s when Jim owned it. Taken in another friend's driveway. Love the yellow plug wires and note the rally wheels. Can't really tell for sure, but looks like the air cleaner lid may be black.

I might have bid on it if I had thought it would go for less than it sold for in 2019. I expected it to at least eclipse 60K with the crazy market we have been seeing. If it was a stick car I would have been all over it. The floors on this car are amazing - must have never been driven in the rain. Interior is exceptional as well. The Super Chevy article stated that at that time the car already had 113k miles on it. Has the interior been redone since then? I have never seen one (especially white) look that good with that many miles, especially in a sunny environment like California. Apparently the top end of the engine has been done, but that is a lot of miles for the bottom end, as well as the original suspension components. It must have been meticulously maintained to stay in this condition with that many miles, if the article was correct.
If I had it to do over again I would have gone after this one. It may be sacrilege, but with a 67 I could actually pull the Turbo400 and sit it under my workbench and convert it over to stick without too much trouble. Basically a bolt-on deal on a 67 - no cutting involved. |
