Does anyone know what the correct Delco-Remy coil is for a 1969 COPO Camaro? I always thought it was a #293, but was recently told it should be a #429B-R. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In the October 1991 Muscle Car Classics there is a restored COPO Chevelle chassis article. The coil in that picture is a 429 B-R.

This old post didn't get much action. I'm not sure if the 293 B-R coil that I have is the original for our COPO Chevelle. I used a Delco transistor ignition on the car for a while and switched coils back and forth. What are the other COPO cars using. The numbers and letters are embossed in the side of the coil.

There was a #429 on e-bay the other day, the fellow said that the #429 was for the Automatic cars and the #293 was for the 4 speed. I don't know what the difference would be? I think there is a #429 on Kevin Hand's Chevelle and that is an auto.

My car(69 Yenko Camaro) has a 293 B-R and I'm pretty sure it's the original.
Hope this helps. Later, Chris |

You might be onto something with the two coil numbers. The Chevelle mentioned above was also an automatic car with the 429B-R coil. Anyone know why the coils would be different? The coil that I have is the 293B-R and the car is a 4 speed.

My car is also a 4 speed. I should've said that earlier.
