I need a 4053 Holley for the Z. Dec '68 to 2nd week of March '69 would be OK with me. I'm just going to buy a complete unit from a vendor, but would like to know who sells good working, decent looking carbs. I don't want to buy some untunable piece of junk finished in bright Eastwood gold paint. Any experiences out there? I know Marlin likes Jeff's Dated Components if you're comfortable with the prices. (And for the record, I think you're entitled to ask good money when you can offer people a half a dozen date codes of whatever they're looking for. That is definately a service they're providing.)

I use Craig Woodruff or Bob Kunz when they have something or if I need one restored.

Chicago Corvette usually has a good stock of cores at reasonable prices and will also provide show quality restos.

Tom;
I pick up my carb from Jeff on Saturday, I'm sure I'll be pleased. I initially thought that I could avoid the $500 restored cost for a 4555 by finding one undone and sending it out, not the case, I'll still have $500+ into the carb. Now I'm thinking of running a generic one for the street so the 4555 doesn't deteriorate too quickly! M

Anybody care to comment on Jerry Luck from Missouri ????.....Marin (and others) your opinion on core values on the 4555 (70 LT-1) and also 4557 (1970 L-78 and LS-6?) before restoration....Chuck

Chuck;
My opinion on 4555/4490 core values depends on the completeness of the core and the date. I try not to buy things that I don't need, but if I find a decent carb less than $200 I would probably buy it. I know it will cost me $300+ to get it redone properly, and $500+ for a done carb seems to be the going rate right now. I even tried to trade some cores for the resto, a 3910 dated '68 (?$) and a 4053 dated Oct of '69 (?$). No deal, so I might just rebuild one of them for my street carb. M
