-------Went over to Novi yesterday and most everything was forgetable, except for what appeared to be a gorgeous 1970 RS/SS 396/375 Camaro.Silver/black gut and really stunning.Anybody else see it?Are there any production figures on this engine combo in 70?By the way its going off today!
-------There was also an extremely nice, loaded 70 El Camino SS 396 with the same color combo.California SS,restored very nicely!..........Bill S |

Yes, I saw the car. Looked real nice. Paint had a few problems but the color under those lights hid it well. When I really began looking close, it started reminding me of one of those scarry auction cars. Very disappointing auction overall. Did you see the 69 RS convertible (phathom green, white top)? Probably the nicest car there.

Did you get the VIN # or Build date? Ony 600 1970 Camaros recieved the L-78 engine. All are believed to be Manual trans.,but there is one on the west coast that isn't a Manual Trans....Did it have one? |

I'd be very interested to hear outcome of 70 L-78 auction. Other than Eric R's(see attachment) Classic Copper in Reading,PA (not a frame off) I know of NO accurately restored 70 L-78's and therefore the market value on these is very difficult to determine. Only the Norwood versions have L-78 on trim tag, but came with NO build sheets, whereas the LA cars had build sheets and NO trim tag "L-78". The cars themselves have little to distinguish themselves as being different outside the 6500/7000 tach, A.I.R./Smog(Usually Missing), RARE Dual Sorkel Aircleaner(Often Missing) and big block eng mounts, one piece fan shroud, black taillight area which the L-34's had also.....Chuck S

Chuck,
------It had the correct aircleaner, but I even forget the blackout in tailight area.I think it was there though.Smog was there, but I didnt see any paperwork offered anywhere so dont know about a build sheet.I really didnt see anyone around it on Saturday, but the owner might have decided not to come in until the day his car was going off.It did have 69/70 SS Chevelle 14 inch wheels.........Bill S |

The car is a very nice Driver, just not restored to maximum standards. It was not fluffed for the auction as it was restored many years ago, with pictoral documentation. It is very correct. Numbers matching drive train L78 designated on the trim tag, original tac untouched, Correct air cleaner and intake as well as smog.
It is a 4 speed and has the blacked out tail panel. It also has the rally sport option which previous owners confirm as factory installed. Only a hand full of the 600 produced have been found and verified. The car was sold new here in Chicago. |
