I happened to see a Buick GSX for sale at a dealership, and i want to be prepared when i go see him. I have heard that there were no convertible GSX's made, but i have also heard that in 71 and 72, the "GSX" was just an appearance package that could be added to any Skylark/GS. If the second is true, then it is possible that there were convertible GSX's right? I need some info on 71 to 72 GSX's, as they were the least common, and not much is known about them. Any info is helpful, thanks.

I already tried that site. A lot of info on 70 GSX's, but none on 71-72's. They don't have too much info on 71-72's, cause there weren't a lot of them made.

Try v8buick.com.
There is a lot of info on the forums over there. You can submit your question and I'm sure someone will answer.

I didn't get to see the kid yet. The Buick GSX is kinda my dream car, but i'll try like hell to get that kid to sell my dad's camaro. If he just won't do it, then maybe the GSX would be a good idea. It's friday today, and hopefully i'll get to see the kid this weekend. After this weekend, i'll update my previous post, and let you know how it turns out!

A couple more Buick web sites:
Buick Gran Sport Page Stage 1 Registry According to a book I have the GSX option, for 71 and 72, was only available for hardtops. It has a copy of a dealer bulletin which states the GSX "...is only available on GS model 3437. This is due to different dimensions in the rear quarters and fenders. The Model 3467 (convertible) does not allow sufficient rear spoiler clearance" Andy |

There are not any known factory RPO GSX rag tops to have ever been built. You could however get a GS in Stage one guise as a rag top in 1970-72, which is technically the same car, sans the special paint colors and stripes(70-71).
In 1972 the GSX was a trim option package(not engine specific) available on any GS. The Vin on a '72 will denote the engine option on the GS, 350, 455 or 455 Stage 1. |
