Default Opinions wanted...Would you pay?

A guy has a set of American TTD wheels for sale on Team Camaro site. Says they fit a 68 Z28. I email and ask if they have spacers. He says no, they bolt right on. He sends 3 pics. Now I believe all pics are of rear wheels. Look good in pics. I buy them. He ships to me. Open first one and find someone has taken a grinder to the spokes to get the clearance. I call him and tell him i wouldn't run these on a go cart. He says send back, he will refund my money. Cost me 105 to ship them back. He refuses to pay for shipping. Would you pay someone 105 to look at a set of junk wheels? Is this a case of buyer beware? Don't trust anyone that sells parts to tell the whole truth? Ask everyone you buy parts from if someone has done a hack job on the part? I just don't think I should pay the stinkin shipping on a set of junkers. Anybody?

They were not advertised as early. I asked specificaly if they were. He did not know. I had a very knowlegable member here look at the pics. The member didn't see the grinding in the pics either. The seller said he didn't see the grinding. It is a lot of grinding. All the spokes have about a half inch ground off. Horrible job. If the seller didn't see it, I would have to classify him as legaly blind. I spoke to him on the phone. He said he will eat the shipping to me, but not the return shipping. Rick, that sounds like a good way to business. I wish all sellers were like that.

Tony,

I know it's a bitter pill to swallow, but in this day & age of the internet and routine cross-country shipping, it's the cost of doing business Remember, the seller has also spent $105 on shipping and is back to square one. If he was at all knowledgeable, he should have been able to see this grinding and should have informed you of it before any money changed hands. If he was just a dishonest jerk he would probably not even offer to refund your purchase price.

Tony,

-------Not saying its right, but be thankful you dont own those chunks of aluminum. I hear stories all the time where sellers change thier phone numbers and simply become completely unresponsive. Im honestly surprized that he is going to do what he says hes going to. What a statement about the state of things!..........Bill S

When you asked him if they needed spacers he should have said then that they had been ground on. I'm thinkin you are lucky he didn't just keep the wheels and your money. Was it just a little grinding that two People can argue about if it is safe or was it a bunch of grinding ?

I think he should refund your full price paid, including shipping costs, regardless of who's at fault,if anyone even is.
Have you tried calling him on the telephone,or talk to him in person?
You might find him more lenient once you do.
In this day & age of the anonymous internet,a lot hide behind the Keyboard, and don't think it will go any farther then that.
If I sell something via the internet,I always contact the buyer once I know they took possesion, and ask them Flat out,"ARE YOU HAPPY WITH IT?"
If it's a reputable part,in reputable condition,& you're both reputable people,it should be amicable.

I would like to see you post this guys ebay name so some of the rest of us can be aware that he is not trustworthy.

Use the power of this forum to police these people that feel that they can get away with this.

I would suggest that you first give him the opportunity to do what is right and then post his information if he doesn't refund the rest of your money. He knew they were defective and should have advertised them correctly or else suffer to loose sales in the future.

It is amazing how the threat of exposure to his potential customers on a website can make someone reconsider his mistake.

What do you have to loose???? Worth a try.

Good Luck

Guys I want to drop in for a second, I have been trading online for a few years now, and what seem's to be the norm is you eat shipping back if you don't like the item, the seller has man'ed up and ate shipping on his end, It don't make it right, I will second the guy may be right on the edge of not being honest, be thankful he didn't tell you to go pound sand, eating a hundo has less after bite then a grand.

I had a similar experience on some supposedly perfect recovered seats, all I can add is make sure you ask very clear questions and get crystal clear answers and make sure you are looking at all the pictures required to make a high end purchase,

Bud.
