Default How do you authenticate a 69 Z-28?

I'm going to look at a 69 Z-28 tomorrow. Supposed to be #'s matching semi-untouched car. Last owner many years. Not a savvy guy.[Me or him!]

Numbers on the pad match the VIN. [Anybody got a pic of a what a DZ pad should look like?}

No 'X' on the trim tag.He says not all Z-28 were 'X code'First 4000 were plain[?] something cars and I don't have a clue...been searching the web figuring there would be a site with a list of all the right parts and numbers to look for but as of now...I can't find it.

HELP![and hurry]

From the good folks at The Camaro Research Group
http://www.camaros.org/diffs69.shtml

If the car was to early to have an "X" code (Norwood cars only) then the big thing would be checking that the numbers match on the engine pad/tranny. Is there any paperwork or Protect-O-Plate (POP) with the car? Also check the rear end codes on the passengers axle tube facing foward.

Plenty more help over on the Team Camaro site as well.
http://www.camaros.net/forums/

You can post the numbers from the car here or at the TC site and someone will help out decoding them for you.

No papers or POP...maybe hidden under the seat or the usual places???

Will the numbers on the rearend be Z-28 only?

I need to know BEFORE I go...I'm not a pussyfooter, I'm not gonna look and go home and think about it...

I come home with a bag o' money or a seat full o' car!

Semi untouched means what exactly.
Alot of Z's out there.
Alot of money to RUSH into, if not educated.
Fakes out there.
Be careful, and cram for the test real fast!!
These guys here are awesome, if you can use the board I would.
I've had a couple numbered Z's, but these experts would know more.
My .02
Good luck.
Buy a book before you go, and check numbers, etc.

If the car is an early Norwood car it may still have an "X" Code on the vertical reinforcement behind the rear seat back, on the passenger side.

You should find a local expert to assist you. A few bucks invested can go a long way.

The 1969 Z/28 is the most cloned car ever.
Be very carefull. Post the tag and the stamp pad for verification.

Look for single fuel line - holley cars had them.
Bracket for dual exhaust - only SS or Z cars had them.
Make sure the trim tag is not a "replica" - most important.

Check for original DZ stamping - easy to tell if you know what to look for.

Later cars have the vin by the oil filter.

Too much to learn in 5 minutes - post the pictures.

Also - no 69 Z's had A/C or Auto trans.
They all came with smog (Correct E-manifolds cost $1500)

Jim,

I would recommend that you have someone more knowledgeable look the car over with you. A few bucks now could save you alot in the long run. If you give your location, maybe even someone from this board would be willing to go? As Pacecar stated, the '69Z is the most cloned car ever, and they've been faked for years!

Charlie, what an odd coincidence. The Dec '88 SC that I dug out with the Royal Plum L78 also has a color feature on your red/red Z/28.

At that time it was the rare single-4 bbl version though :-O
