I know it sounds bad, but that would be the best way to retag a car. No rivet issues, and not many would look for a hidden weld seam away from the tag. Not condoning it in any way, I'm firmly against it. But something to keep an eye out for.
This particular tag is not an issue. CRG has it already. Also pics of it when the tag was seperate from the firewall at one time. dave

IMO this could very well have been a fake $275 tag on a junk piece of tin. Quite a profit....

I think a little research will prevent a problem. Don't the Camaro guys know the relationship between the VINs and the body numbers?
