If he is talking about the VIN# all 67 SS chevelles have a 8 as the third number in the VIN. 13837 or 12867.

Well.. first, any REAL Super Sport 66 or 67 Chevelle will have a Model number starting either of two ways.. 138177 for 1967 hardtop SS, 138677 for 1967 Conv. SS

66 would be 138176 or 138676

and don't even bother wasting your energy looking to find out about some myth.... there were NO 66 or 67 SS 427 cars from the Factory.. any 66 or 67 with a 427 was a dealer swap.. and it may have very well taken place before the owner even took it home the first time.. but not from GM!

There is no way of telling what engine came in the car originally without some form of documentation ( 325, 350 or 375hp ) or unless the engine in the car is original, in which case the two letter prefix stamped on the deck pad will tell you which HP came in the car originally.

I had never heard of a 67 with anything other than a 396. Someone else said they thought they remembered a pilot run of 67s w/ a 427 factory installation but I am sure this would have been documented by now. Thanks for the info, I was not convinced about the existence of such a car.
