I had to kind of laugh when I saw this. I owned a business that dealt in automotive literature for over ten years known as Auto Know here in the Detroit area.
A large part of my business dealt in buying and selling back issue car magazines. I closed the business when I starrted working for Championship Auto Shows, Inc. but being the consummate collector, I never liquidated my inventory. Bottom line; I have (literally) well over 100,000 car magazines, and many are right here in my basement sorted by make, month and year. Although I do not currently have any "prime year" issues of SS/DI as I was always able to sell them as fast as I took them in, I do have thousands of other titles. In addition, being the collector that I am...I have several thousand in my own "personal" collection. If anyone is looking for a back issue, let me know. If you are a sYc member, I will offer any magazines in my inventory to you FREE if you cover the shipping or I will personally deliver them to the Vettefest shows or an Autorama or World of Wheels show if I am there. BTW; if it is a "newer" issue of S/S, meaning late 70's or newer, I may have it. Thanks/BA |

SS&DI was the best. They were testing the ZL1 Camaros and Yenko 427s when no one else knew that they even existed. June, July, and August 1969 are the ones to get. When the new models came out in the fall, Saturday Evening Post had some great 2 page ads for the new cars. I have 40 years worth of magazines in our attic. I'll have to sort them out now that I am retiring.

And speaking of Original Ads...that was the main part of the business and I have several hundred thousand of those too, filed by make/model/year. All kinds of muscle ads. See the Nickey site for a few that I supplied to Stefano and Jay. Any "special requests?" I will deliver to Vettefest next weekend but need to know by Monday as I will be driving out in the company truck |

Wow Bob...what an offer.
Too bad I can't remember which issue or which year....(81 I think?) of the Super Chevy and/or Car Craft that dealt with the Devonshire Downs show that my step brother sold his real Chevy crossram intake and blueprints at...it made it into the first few paragraphs of the article. I'd love to have that one...I inadvertently threw it away during a move...or at least I think that I did? ![]() ![]()
