Default Mike Marx (68 Vert) Beautiful 1968 GTO Convertible

Bruce,

In November of 2005 I was at a large car show in Daytona Beach (Turkey Run) selling my ’68 Firebird 400 and I was talking to a prospective buyer about selling the ‘Bird. I mentioned that I was looking for either a ’69 Judge or a ragtop car. A guy selling a BB Camaro comes over and said he overheard my conversation and would I be interested in a 93k mile ’68 GTO ‘Vert…” I bought the whole estate from the family and I don’t do Pontiacs…I’m a Chevy guy”. I said, sure…

I know it’s not a Super Car but here’s a little history on my car from the second owners son. His dad bought the car in the early ‘70’s from a friend of his that bought the car new. Living in Iowa, he only drove the car in the summer and rarely at that. While the car was at a Pontiac dealership in ’73 for service it was vandalized. As a result, the Dealer repainted the car and put a new top on it. (Don, does this mean that it’s not a survivor?) J/K

He retired to Fl in ’85, and at that time the car had 89k miles on it. The car sat in the garage and had 4k miles put on it in 20 years! It still has a ’76 Iowa registration sticker on the windshield.
He died ’05 and I purchased the car from the gentleman who bought the whole estate.

I have PHS docs and build sheet; the car is numbers matching except for the carb which is for an automatic car. Hell, the car still has the original radiator. The body is all original sheet metal and interior is stock. The paint is checked pretty good and suffers from 30 + years of dings and paint chips.

Car has the following factory options:

Convertible
Standard 400, 350 hp
4 Speed Manual Transmission (M20)
Rear Axle Safe-T-Track-HD, 3:55
Radio-AM & FM Electric antenna
Rear Speaker-Verba-Phonic
Retractable Headlamp Covers
Cluster & Tachometer-Rally Gauge
Rally II Wheels
Console
Power Steering
Power Brakes
Glass-Soft Ray-All windows
Lamp-Luggage
G70 X 14 Wide Ovals
Color - Verdoro Green
Black Top (now white)
Parchment Interior

Thanks,

Mike

Beautiful car. The top goes down and it has a 4 spd. All is right in the universe.

Mike, thanks for sharing your totally cool 68 Vert with us. What a great car to cruise around in...

I, too, really like the parchment interior.
