A local fella has a 68 Nova for sale. I remember reading here one time that you should check out the 68's for some reason that I fail to remember. He has no build sheet but it is badged up as an SS. Power disc brakes, manual steering, has 4 speed hump and console, 12 bolt rear with multi-leafs, tach is in the dash, says the hood has reinforcements where the grilles were once on it though now missing. I have the Vin number. Can I tell anything other than it was a V8 car from that? And does anyone remember what I should look for on a 68? I did do a search but can't seem to find that old post I read in here. Thank you . Dave

Nova SS VIN will start with 11427....but that won't designate SS..only V8 2dr.....Super Sport was an option with an RPO code like other options...base engine for SS in 1968 was the 350/295hp small block...available with powerglide auto or 3/4 speed std....BB came in later in the model year in limited qty....SS hood louver tabs are a good clue, SS badging, blacked out grill, rear panel, multi-leafs, 12 bolt, dual exhaust, console with gauges are also strong clues..but are not a sure thing. Original engine with VIN or paperwork are the key...post some pics, check the back seat for paperwork, talk to previous owners...

Here are some pics he sent to me. Hope they come through. He said someone changed out the front buckets and the build sheet was gone. I always thought it could be under the back seat somewhere or even between the trunk floor and gas tank. Am I wrong?
