Default 70 Chevelle SS 396 4-Speed Documented Survivor

Before I put this Chevelle for sale on ebay next week, I thought that I would offer it to the folks on this website. It's not for sale anywhere else.

I purchased the car from the widow of the original owner. Unfortunately, he passed away in January, 2005. His son told me that he treated the car like on of his kids and it shows. It has just 35,000 Original miles and is documented with the Original Window Sticker, Sales Contract, Delivery Check List, Warranty Guide and Protecto-Plate.

The Chevelle is very well equipped; 19-19 Black, Black Bucket Seats, Center Console, Positraction Axle, 4-Speed Transmission, Special Instrumentation, AM Radio, Cowl Induction Hood and SS 396 Equipment. See photos of window sticker.

This Chevelle SS is incredibly original. The drivetrain has never been out of the car and is "All Numbers matching". I mean everything. The block, heads, transmission, shift linkage, differential, manifolds, carburetor, distributor, water pump, radiator, coil, air cleaner, hoses, hose clamps, belts, etc.

It still retains it's original shock absorbers and springs. The spring tags are still in place (see photos). All of the sheet metal, glass, interior, floor pans, trunk pan, etc. are original to the car. All five wheels are original and date coded and it still retains it's original spare.

It's probably easier to tell you what has been changed. It has had one repaint in it's original color - Black with White Stripes. I just put brand new T/A Radials on it and it has all new brake lines (safety first). The original owner had put Thrush mufflers on it at some point and it's begging for a Gardner Exhaust.

The car runs great and the Big Block doesn't burn any oil. The transmission shifts beautifully.

I'm asking $47,500.00 for the car and I can be reached at 847.809.8022 (cell) or by e-mail at [email protected]

I checked out the PhotoBucket pics and see that you took a pic of what you are calling the "original" carb. Can I please get the carb numbers. I can't really make them out. Thanks.

TwoBryans:

The stamping on the carburetor is 29268WF with a date code of 0779. According to Alan Colvin sometimes the 70 prefix is missing on some stampings and that's where I quit looking. Because of the date code I assumed it was the original carb and did not check my books. It is obviously a replacement at some point. You might have done the same if you saw this Chevellle. Everything on it is pretty much unchanged including the belt and the hoses. The original owner replaced the thermostat at some point so the upper hose is missing one of the tower clamps. Ed

Nice ride. Nice color. Terrific patina. Love those single fan-belted muscle cars. No PS, no A/C. Good luck. Don't think this one will last too long.

Went to summer camp at Camp Mowana nr Mansfield as a kid. Good times!

Sam:

Thanks for noticing. I forgot to mention it's still got all four original T3 headlights in it. It's a pretty rare find.
