Default Fake VIN - rat him out??

I was recently contacted about a car that had photos that showed a fake VIN plate. No question. Current owner may have purchased it that way OR, from some other evidence, may have done it himself.

Do I contact the DMV or give it a couple of weeks and see if he takes care of it himself? I told him the plate is fake. I'll likely never know what he does......

As often as not, people will quietly try to ship a car like this down the road before anyone notices. It's getting harder all the time though with web sites like this. I'm with Kim.

Whatever you decide to do, would it be wrong to note the complete Vin here so anyone searching it online has a chance at finding out the truth before it's too late?.

Nope it wouldn't be wrong to note it here...or nope, it shouldn't be noted here?.

If it's true, personally I can't see how it could be legally wrong to make it known in an open forum like this?. At least if someone seaches the Vin and comes across this thread, the trail may not be too cold to hold whoever has/had the car responsible?.

Even if the repop Vin tag matches the car it's on, it's still wrong!.

I hate little in this world (and don't even use the word around my kids), but do admit I really HATE repop and/or transplanted Vins/Cowl tags and how they erode our hobby!!!.
