The U.S. Geological Survey reported a magnitude 5.9 earthquake in Virginia, centered about 83 miles southwest of Washington, DC, on Tuesday, Aug. 23, at 1:51 p.m. EDT.

I hope everyone one is OK...

An after shock of 2.3 in Altamont NY was recorded. We felt it at the factory I work at one town over. Thank god I wasn't crawling around on the machines we build.

Family and friends in Maryland have called me, they seem fine, but shaken.

My daughter's best friend just returned from Japan as part of her studies abroad. She arrived there about a month after the disaster there in Japan.

She posted up today on FB she finds it ironic to experience her first earthquake while sitting on her porch in Maryland.

If none of this makes sense, I'm still under the influence of morphene.

I'm probably about 35 miles from the center of the quake, sitting at my desk it felt like I was riding a hobby horse for a minute there!!!

58-1/2 years old and never felt a quake before. My computer monitor moved. I thought there was a 500 lb. person coming through my door or something was landing on my roof. Lasted for about 10-12 seconds. Scary for an old guy! GEEZE!

5.8 is a pretty decent sized quake. Glad everyone is okay!

The wife was at the computer and immediately noticed her chair shaking, here in Jersey. I didn't feel a thing.

She then said: "That's the first earthquake I have ever experienced."

I replied: "You mean our honeymoon doesn't count?"

She was was only mildly amused.
