Yenko.net uses an old forum application called UBB, it doesn't have a smartphone app for it.

Other more common forum applications like the VBullentin, that you have to pay for as a forum provider, and phpBB who is free are the most common forum applications. Tapatalk has support for those and a few others, but not for UBB who is sort of obsolete today.

One problem with software like the ones for forums is that they are very often very hard to convert to another system if you want to keep the history of the old threads.

There is nothing wrong with the system we have here, it works as expected. But there are better systems out there with more support for other things like the Tapatalk.

Obsolete ain't all bad. Most of the cars we talk about, and most of the parts are obsolete in many peoples eyes. That doesn't mean they aren't still extremely valuable.

Would this particular UBB forum be considered a "Day 2" forum since its had minor modifications since new?

Lol, that's actually pretty accurate! We started out in the late '90s with a "demo" version of UBB Classic, which I hacked to pieces to gain the functionality of the licensed version...after a few years of that and seeing my coding free-time decrease after the birth of kid #2 I opted for a licensed version of UBB Classic. Then came the php/MySQL boon and we jumped to UBB Threads.

UBB has served us well for over a decade, and while the latest update is lagging due to the death of one of the owners/developers, the project has been picked up and reinvigorated, and I truly believe that UBB will regain the prominence it knew not that long ago. And, I'm not hearing much good in the developer/admin world about vBulletin 4+ and it's new owners (Internet Brands), so for now my vote is to stay put.

I do hear some good things about Tapatalk (one advantage is all of your forums are in one locale), but most of it is from the user end versus the admin end, as it has had issues with security...the more plugins, the more conflicts during upgrades/revisions/etc. I could be wrong, but I actually think the trend in the future will be toward mobile themes/stylesheets versus add on mobile apps, that way everything is still tucked behind the security of the forum software itself versus relying on the app developer to stay ahead of the security curve with updates. Again, I may be wrong about that...

[btw, my opinion in *no way* represents those of the new management, or major league baseball!]

Rob,good info! I have heard that some people have signed up to tapatalk and found out that their favorite "board" isn't on there anyways...

I can still get this website on my smart phone...so why change it?

I like this the way it is!
