JD, I know I don't speak for everyone, but I've been saying it for a few years now: "The Trans Am cars NEED to be down in price"!! I personally don't think there is any reason for these cars to be in the 70K range OR HIGHER in some cases. I think that the market is actually going down some of the old Muscle cars, and these are a good example of cars going back to where they should be. Nice restored for around the 50K range for you "normal" '69 Z-28 car. Not a disc brake or 2X4 car, just the normal 302 4sp 12 bolt NON RS cars.
Now with that being said, this car would need 10's of thousands of $$$ to fully restore, and you're still not with the matching number engine and possibly trans. As it sits, since the interior is pretty nice, it would be in the 15K range. I think this car in today's market would crest the 50K when done, but as the market shrinks and the flood of '69 Z's are out there, this car would get hit for non original drivetrain. Sorry but you asked and that's my personal thoughts on value

Well stated John...but there's another issue today, and that's with the inflated price of parts.
Restoring one of these cars today that does not have the original drive train is extremely costly. Case in point is the X77 car I am bringing back from being a Super Stock. By the time you source and buy all the missing Z/28 parts, dated and numbers correct components, and then restore the interior, bodywork and paint etc, you can easily be into one of these cars for 70K-80K and sometimes more? The high price of restoration work (quality body & paint) and the excessive price of dated components today is what's driving up the asking prices once completed. While we all wish they were 40K-50K cars finished they are not because the 69 cars are "so popular" with "so many" people. Many of which don't want to spend on a turn key finished $$$ car, so they then seek out a project car that's missing lots and end up restoring one (only to find out how costly that can be). That sets them on the competitive path of seeking out the rare parts which are already overpriced IMO and fuels good old supply and demand issues once again. Until people stop paying absorbent prices for these parts, I doubt we are going to see a huge correction in the asking price of finished cars. It's another reason people are searching more for the survivor cars now. Less parts to buy than a car that is in need of so much more.
