Default Baldwin-Motion ?

I am sure that this is a topic that most regulars are well versed in. But for the sake of newcomers like my self, can we go over it one more time?

As I understand it Baldwin Chevrolet and Motion Performance enjoyed a close working relationship, but were not actually conected to each other.

I realize that not all cars sold by Baldwin were Motion cars. And like wise, as a full service speed shop, not all cars modified by Motion were Baldwin cars.

So my question is this. Why is a Baldwin-Motion car prized more then a car from another dealer, modified by Motion?

It would seem to me that the input of Motion Performance, & Mr.Rosen would be far more significant then the originating dealer.
After all a Yenko sold through another dealership is not thought any less of then one sold directly through the Yenko dealership.

The cars sold by Baldwin-Motion up until 1971
were sold by an actual Chevrolet dealership.
After `71, Motion Performance was merely a speedshop without GMAC financing, new car warranty etc... Which means the '67 to '71 cars are more valuable than the post '71 cars.

The reason I asked the question originally is.

Last summer I was at a large swap meet in this area.(Southern Ontario)When I came upon a guy selling a early 70's Vette hood and a pair of big block rocker covers. The hood had the SS427 emblems and the covers had Motion emblems.

He claimed they were off a car modified by Motion but not a Baldwin car, so he was restoring it to stock.

It seems to me that this car would still have been more desirable as a Motion car then as a stock Corvette. Even though there was no tie to Baldwin.

So who's crazier, Me or the the seller?

Jeff: Don't know a lot about it really. I'd say mid 80's, some people I know in London had bought this Vette. 240 Z front end, orange and black guts if I remember right. Anyway, they could'nt find out how to doucument it for one reason or another, so they let it go.
I still think it was the real deal. I think it went Toronto way, but not sure. If it's that important, I could find out more info! But it would be limited.

Only body part I saw was the hood. It was weathered, and had lots of chips around the leading edge. The colour YELLOW.

Well Jeff, the car is apparently still around. Talked to the old owner and he is going to see the car and talk to the guy again. Anything you can tell me to identify this car to see if it's one and the same. Partial vin...anything??????
