Just picked up a great book that traces the roots of Super Stock and Factory Experimental (AFX) drag racing from the mid 50's thru 1968...SUPER STOCK: DRAG RACING THE FAMILY SEDAN by Larry Davis. Great history with all the details and super pictures. Lot's of info on all the hot cars and drivers of that era. If you want some terrific reading about 409's, Z-11's, 427's, Strickler, Nicholson, Grumpy and all the other great cars and drivers, you've got to get this book. Ordered mine from Barnes & Noble. Not cheap, but worth every penny if you're into drag racing history.
