1 hour from collinsville and i running 77 mph with the escalade and i hit radar and the volume on the detector was turned down. cop asks me how fast i thought i was going and i told him about 75 mph. he said that there were signs everywhere that pulling a trailer you were supposed to go 55 mph. we had no idead knowing the speed limit was 65 mph., 10 mph slower if pulling a trailer. rick and i looked at each other with amazement. cop say whats in the trailer and where are you going. i said a yenko nova and we were headed on a 13 hour journey. he said i'll be back in a minute. he came back and i said , what a way to start a sunday morning, he said i am just giving you a warning nobody has pissed me off yet today. we said thanks would you like to see whats in the trailer and he said hell yes. boy, what a relief thos yenkos bring good luck and the cop loved cars. moral of the story, always tote a nice ride, gives you something to talk about with the cops. shewwwwwww! In addition to trailer speed, we found out the hard way that in many states, you MUST pull into a truckers weigh station if you are pulling a car trailer. Thank God it was pouring rain out and the woman trooper had a sense of humor. The trailer brake battery was toast and that was not good. Glad to hear all worked out for you.

What states do you have to pull into a weigh station? I've never heard of that one...

We got stopped in Wisconsin and were told that any pick up pulling an enclosed trailer needed to weigh in. The trooper made us prove to her that we only had a car in the trailer and that we were not selling anything. My understanding was any commercial vehicle needed to stop but not a "not for hire' vehicle. She also stated to be cautious as Illinois was also that way and we were heading into Illinois. To be honest, I have never checked with the Wisconsin DOT to verify as she was a trooper and had a DOT person with her. This was the first and only time that had happened. This person came out of a weigh station with lights flashing and caught up to us.

I guess I should look it up on-line (.gov sites) to see. I've towed my trailer with our RV and truck without ever stopping at a weigh station. I remember being nervous passing by them at first, not knowing if I should be stopping
I would imagine that a "not for hire" 18 wheeler, such as those used by NASCAR car owners etc, would still have to stop.

i never knew how good the escalade would pull the trailer that good. it has air suspension and the load leveling set up i added to even out the load. i think that was the key. if i were a load levelor salesperson i would make a killing selling them, they are the best and i've yet to figure out how they lower the front of the tow vehicle and level the ride out. th power was stock 345 hp and it never had a problem with the trailer and car in the mountains. the only problem was gas mileage 7.5 to be in fact.. i think i need the paxton supercharger!!!!! When you say it never had a problem in the mountains are you saying it didn't pull down your speed alot? If so I don't believe it. In August I pulled my car to Denver in my big block Suburban 3/4 ton and the big hills took their toll.
