And that Impala had a very large back seat to slide across !! I'm 5'5" and it was like a condo back there...I also took the interior light bulbs out and painted them blue to match the car...sure did some dumb crap back then...wish I had pictures of some of my old cars but my ex-wife "lost" them all !

I went to a local cruise tonight with the Chevelle and had a blast. I didn't realize that there were so many cool street cars running around. It was the first night of nice temps and NO rain...so the cars were all out. I did see a really cool 1967 L78 Camaro, original owner, all Day 2'd. Car had one repaint, M22, 4:56's (original gear). The guy said that Grumpy called the dealer where he bought it trying to get the car, but he had put a depoist on it. The dealer (Hechler Motor Co) had ordered 2 identical cars, save ring/pinion (4:10 and a 4:56). Both were sold to co-workers. Guy said motor, trans, rear never apart. I heard the car has been low 12's....pretty impressive when you think about it. What do you guys think about Tunnel rams...were alot of guys running them on the street? What was the hot set up for BB's? I'll try to remember to bring my cmaera and get some pics next time.

Most guys probably ran a single four but there were still many TR's in my area back in the day.
This is a typical "Street Freak" Chevelle. see attachment |

Another 71-72. I love the skinny 15x4 Cragars with 5.60x15 tires, Ladder bars, ET rear end cover etc. These cars have the look we loved back in HS but could not afford.

Belair there is still a muffler shop by my old house that still has Cherry bombs hanging up on the wall since the 60's that they sell. The place is called Robin Hood and is still in Cicero on Ogden just west of Austin. The same guys that put an exhaust on my fathers 55 Chevy in 1968 are STILL there!
Oh yeah Belair you are 5'5"??????

Some of the mods I did to my Chevelle in the 70's was installing Mickey Thompson finned valve covers, Doug Thorley headers (were cheaper than Hooker Headers) and replacing the Rochester Q-jet with a Holley spread bore carb.
Had cherry bombs on it for a while. A bit noisy though. The neighbours kids would cover their ears and run for cover when I drove down the street. Later switched to turbo mufflers. Andy |
