Default Found 1969 Z/28 - - paint code X33 D80 Crossram

I have been looking for a crossram for my Z/28 and came across this car today It's been sitting for years with the front clip off of it with the dash plus the interior stripped, its missing the trans. but the rest of the car is rust free and is a roller. The trim tag shows the dash-dash paint code 712int 05D build date X33D80 trim. It is a heater detete car with tilt, comfort grip wheel, no power steering, deluxe interior with maybe a console. One of the weird things is it has no power brake booster for the disc brakes nor does it look like it ever had one. I can not tell what the original color might have been because the car was stripped of all of the original paint and primered. The motor is numbers matching and just redone, it is complete from the reproduction wide base air cleaner with reproduction carbs, GM crossram intake to the pan. The machine shop that built it, has a great reputation around this area and he has already been paid to install the motor and get it running, it has 12.5 to 1 compression and a whole bunch of neat stuff done to it. I am seeking advise is this worth following up on at $25,000 or is it too much money? All I realy wanted was the crossram for my other car Z/28.

Numbers matching engine?? was it decked or can you still read the engine suffix code and other numbers?
Does it have a GM Crossram hood?
How far gone is the body of the car? Myself I would think the orginal engine topped with a GM crossram and correct carbs and linkage along with the Crossram hood (if There) and the X33 body to go with the car would be worth the 25K. If you pass up on it please let myself or someon here know so someone might pick it up and restore it back to its glory.

The special order paint (--) is good since it could be painted just about anything you wanted to paint it (until Jim M records come out) and the Heater delete unless sent to Hawaii or out of country was added by someone other than the factory, with only one exception, if the car was ordered strictly for racing.

It does not have the fiberglass hood and I would need to track down the inside part of the heater delete because most of the interior is gone. Does anybody have comments on the brake master cylinder not having a power booster? The brake lines look original and I am not sure if its a brake proportining valve or just a mounting place for a sensor with a wire coming out of it. The piece is much smaller than what I have seen before much like a JL8 but the car is not a JL8 also it has a support bracket that mounts to master cyl. to firewall mount. Was there a over the counter brake system that did without a power booster because of the 140 cam and crossram?

I have seen manual disc brakes in the past, normally on a race car where it was a concern over loosing vaccuum, or the engine not producing enough constant vaccuum because of high performance build to run the booster. With the unspecified paint code, heater delete, and high performance options as well as manual disc brakes it would be safe to say this car was ordered as a race car where the owner was going to paint it in a specific race paint trim. Car could have come in primer or painted a specific race trim color at the factory. Factory race car if everything you described is original to the car.
Thanks,

I don't remember any Camaros having been able to be delivered from the factory with no paint/primer only. (Jim M.) would know for certain.

The double dash paint code delete just meant the car was painted a non standard color and had to be processed via COPO.

Couldn't the -- paint also mean stripe delete? If the heater delete was added, than I could see the original owner also removing the brake booster. I wouldn't get hopes up that it was something special built though. Still, a number matching Z28 needing work is probably worth $15-20K, then add the value of the crossram which probably adds $5-7K. Sounds like the car is priced appropriately.

The -- paint code was usually a non standard color. I am not sure about Chevrolet but I know Ford delivered some of the 69 Boss cars to TA race teams in primer, some of the Hemi Darts were delivered in a mixture of black and primer. The Penske TA Camaro's had the -- paint code as the Penske/Sunoco blue was a non standard color and delivered to Penske with the -- on the cowl tag. Jeff, good question about stripe delete, anyone know how Chevrolet designated stripe delete on the cowl tag? Does the car have the heater delete plate on the dash? What is the rear end code? While typing this I cant remember if you listed the VIN, if not do you have it? Never know what could be turned up.

Not sure about 1969 but in 62 there were cars sent to Grand National racers as "bodies in white"....

As far as I know the "Team Shelby" Mustangs were delivered as "bodies in white", that is white I found to be under everything else on my car, but I have photos and the shipping bill here for two 69 Boss Mustangs that were shipped to a dock bound for Austrailia for AMR, Allan Moffett Racing, both of those were in primer.
