Default Dick Harrell FC

I am starting to get a feel for what is involved (work) in running a blown engine. When we had Nancy Gibb fire the car out side of the center, we noticed that the number 8 cylinder was dead. From watching the video, there is a puff of smoke from that side during my last burnout. Mo guessed a blown head gasket. Sure enough, when I tore it down Sunday, area around #8 was gone. And, when I pulled the other head, #7 was about to go. Looks like time to o-ring. Other then that, everything looked good. Should be up and running this weekend. Help me out though, do not let Mo know he was right or he may want to be promoted from parking attendant. Tom some of the best of us started out as parking attendents. Nothing wrong with humble beginnings. Just give Mo a

Frank, it's really not the promotion I fear as much as the pay. If he keeps being right, I might actually have to start paying him something $$. Then it will Rob, and Jon, and Cat, and Stacy, my whole crew. Today t-shirts, tommorrow ? Where will it all end?

Tom,
I doubt if Mo is interested in the money. Go ahead and make him CHIEF Parking Lot Attendant and give him a name tag to go along with it. He'll probably be satisfied for another week or two.

No offense Mo!

Tom, running a blown motor really isnt that big of a deal if its right to start with. You really do need to o-ring it and run copper gaskets. Good head studs, etc. For what your doing mainly burnouts I am assuming, you should be able to go years without too much maintenance. Go with heavier valve springs too, too weak and you start dropping valves. I am freshening my engine after 2 years of regular mid to high 7 second runs and long burnouts and it still looks like new. I have the perfect short block for you if you didnt have a engine already. If you need any help dont hesitate to ask. BTW are you running any Nitro in it or just Alky? Micky

Micky, alky right now, mainly because of added safety requiremnts, plus more stress on the engine with nitro. We have a "race " block which is a 510, with studs, o-ringed, all roller, alum heads and rods etc. The engine in it now was an extra we had, 402/375. We are checking on o-ringing it. Everything else looks OK. Just wanting to get used to the car before going too crazy. And hey, I am in the 7s, 1/8 mile though

Well Tom. What did you think would happen when you put another driver where a Harrell should be? Valerie wouldn't think of running with out Nitro.
Take the advice, put some good valve train parts in it.
In fact, the better motor could save you in the long run.
If that thing pitches a rod and oils the tires you could lose what you have. Same with all the screws in the injector. Those butterflies will move.
I have located 2 injectors like that car used to have. I am trying to by them.
We got Elaine talking the other nite about Dick's racing days and his cars. Almost couldn't shut her up. We just let her talk ... her memory backs up Dave Libby.
