Default Son left for Navy today; Nova stored away

Hello to all. My 18 year old son shipped out for basic training today. He'll be in Great Lakes for just over two months for training then, off to Charleston, S.C. for two years for Naval School (nuclear reactors) then, another four years of active duty. Boy, I sure will miss him. We just spent the last four months thrashing on a 69 Nova for him, just for the sake of one final father/son project. We equipped it with some nice goodies (396 solid lift, turbo 400, 3000 stall, 12 bolt 4:10 posi). We even had the opportunity to carry it to our local 1/8th mile strip for some test and tune. We accomplished what we set out to do and I hope created lasting memories for him, as I know it did for me.Do any members here have similar stories or children currently serving in armed forces. Let me encourage you to share your stories. Thanks for reading mine.

Sorry to hear that your son left for a while. Good thing he isn't going to Iraq or anywhere else yet. At least you have some good memoriries to tide you over till he gets back safe and sound!

I know that one of our members fom IL Mahoyspider left for I think Afganastan for a while but came back safe and sound. The cool thing is that I think that he got the opportunity a couple of times to check out the site thousands of miles away while there.

I know he is a capable young man and he has a great future ahead. It will definitely take some getting used to not having him around. We put the Nova in storage along-side the 88 Monte Carlo SS, which was his first car and also served as a major father/son restoration project. I have made every effort to bring him up in the car hobby, which he really seems to excell at. I know in my heart that he will be fine in the Navy and will make his mother and I proud.
