Quick question
Has anyone tried running a std. 302 with crossram, and then heard or tried a 302, with 12-12,5/1 pistons, 2.nd design race cam etc. and the crossram. I am in the works of putting back my crossram and have a 2.nd design cam, and some higher dome pistons laying in the shop. So now i¨m fishing to hear if someone has tried this!?? NEW |

I think most of the time the guys that bought the crossrams in the old days put them on stock 302 motors. If you wanted to change cams and pistons it would be like the old modified eliminator days of the early 70's. Dual quads high compression, and a high lift cam. You really don't need all that compression on the street. Just a very low gear. 4:88's or 5:13's if you want all that cam shaft.

Will it be easier to use the motor with a steeper cam, concerning the crossram intake?
Or can you just migth as well go with the 485/485 cam, and headers, and steep gears. NEW |

A lot of that depends on your use of the car. On the street a Crossram is a POS to drive much. Sucks gas and is a stumble bum unless you leave hard and/or have a low geared rearend. (4:56 or 4:88) You will not want to leave home with out your credit card.
The cams you are refering to are not that bad on the street as long as you are not trying to run a tall 3:xx rear gear. I would not like to drive it with anything higher than a 3:73. If you do, you will have to have a good clutch. In my opinion there is not that much difference between 11-1 or 12-1 pistons. Both will need race gas. The right cam can make you or break you. There is not much difference between them as far as the average guy just to listen to it run. Both will sound healthy. I would suggest that you stick with a low end powercurve on the cam if you are going to drive it much. You will have more fun and it will be actually faster on the street. Not to mention less maintence with the drivetrain. (setting the valves often and breaking pushrods) The wilder the cam the harder it is to drive and lets face it how often do you plan on reving it to 8,500 rpm's on the street? Good luck Pantera

Agree! Not much advantage to the compression and really NO advantage to the crossram. Just looks good. sam

Thanks guys, always good to get some input.
I will put back the crossram tough, and i see its not that much for performance, but the look of that package can make a man sick.(the "i want one to" kind of sick) I¨ll stick with the standard cam, and pistons- and the car has 4,10s in the rear originally so ill stay with that to. Thanks NEW |

New,
I have a std bore, std 11:1 piston, with "30/30" std cam in "Little Hoss". I have only run a crossram. I have 5:38 gears, M21, runs great on the street, ask the guys who were there at the 2002 SYC reunion, when we went on the 25 mile escorted drive to the bar-b-que. Only minor issue is the 7mpg. I run 110/114 leaded. I would make sure the carbs are done to factory specs, use manley rockers, and have the set-up broke in with an experienced dyno tech. He should set the carbs to have equal fuel and air consumption, and egt readings. I would also recommend recurving the distributor. |

Could you please elaborate as to what jetting and accelerator pumps you are suugesting for the carbs with the crossram set-up?
