Default Jack Douglass Archeology???

Living in Hinsdale,Il.......home of the now famous Jack Douglass Chevy....I have always felt somehow special. In my daily travels, I pass the JD location every day which is now a Continental Motors location selling Ferarri and Maserati. For several months the dealer has undergone a complete facelift with a new showroom being grafted onto the old barracks style building. Yesterday while driving by I caught sight of a blue bowtie behind a sheet of construction plastic blowing in the wind. After testing my antilock and almost causing an accident, I was able to get a picture of a remnant of the old JD signage(I believe) behind the Ferarri fascade. I have got the sales manager and condtruction manager on the lookout for more *JD* stuff.

I was thinking that exact same thing when I posted. I pictured him seeing the post and throwing the keyboard on the floor and making a mad dash to his car. I'd bet almost anything he has been there and knows every worker by name.

-------That dealer was, of course, also Classic Motors after Jack built the new dealership that sank him. I managed the shop back in the Classic Motors days when he was partners with the illustrious Richard Buxbaum. The Coke machine used to be stuffed with beer. Man, do I have fond memories of that building. I have some great pics of the inside of the shop and of the back yard but have to figure out how to scan them and post them. I think you guys would appreciate them!..........Bill S

I made a few visits to Classic Motors at that facility back around 76 or 77. That's when my friend sold them the 4K mile Mist green 70 LS6 Chevelle, and I also remember a white with black trim 67 Z28 that I was very interested in. At the time, it was the only one I had ever seen.

Bill, it was nice to meet you on the field at Barrett-Jackson a few weeks ago and have the opportunity to drool over your gold LS6 car. It was a beauty

--------Thanks, Bill. High praise. The green LS6 was half mine and half Richards. I did all the work and he got all the profit (well, not quite!). That old car was very strong. It also helped me ferret out several other low mileage cars just by being around the shop.........Bill S

------Oh, The Z28 came from Zanesville, Ohio in 1977. Belonged to a salvage yard owner. It was a beautiful original car even though it had been used as intended by the original engineers, HARD. Would also love to know where that old car went!!!!!
