Default THANK YOU

Now that I have time to slow down a bit, I too want to thank everyone for their acts of kindness following the loss of my dad. Words cannot express how comforting it was to hear from so many of you.
And, it made me realize that the reason this hobby is so important to me, is the hobby is more about the folks you meet and less about the cars. The cars are simply the common denominator that brings us together. I know I have a lot of “supercar” friends, whose friendship I cherish more then ever, and am looking forward to spending time with many of you during the coming weeks and months.
In closing, a good friend of mine, Rick Hall, who also just recently lost this father, told me something that really hit home. “It has been said, that a boy does not become a man until the passing of his father”. A couple of weeks ago this would not have made much sense to me, but does now. Like so many of us, the writer of this verse must have had one of those “special fathers”. To any of you out whose fathers have passed on, you have my deepest sympathy, and to the ones whose fathers are still with us, spend all of the time you can with them, cherishing each moment, because, regardless how much time you spend with them, in the end, it will not seem like enough.

Thanks again, and may God bless, Tom Clary

My dad sent a telegram to his parents the day I was born. It said: "BILLY EATON JET PILOT BORN TODAY 1AM--NO SWEAT--MOM DOING FINE" That was October 16, 1962. The last time I saw my father alive was at my U.S. Air Force flight school graduation dinner on March 10, 1989. He had pinned on my Air Force pilot's wings earlier that day. He died of a sudden heart attack on May 1, 1989.

I once read something that said a person isn't really dead as long as someone remembers them and thinks about them.

I think about my dad every day. I wish he could have seen his grandkids because he would have loved how funny they are.

Oh, and yes, I have an original copy of that telegram that my dad kept in his scrapbook.

Tom, I know how you feel. I lost my Dad to cancer on Feb 2nd. I had some time to "prepare" since there was about 2 months between the time he was pronounced terminal and when he died. But, I was kidding myself. You're never prepared for it. I think about him constantly and I know that he lives on in me and my brother. Like you, alot of my friends in and out of the car hobby, really propped me up.

It's part of life but it still $ucks.

Mark
