Default Hot Rod "Pump Gas Drags"

Took a trip to Memphis last night with Johnny Cat to watch the Pump Gas Drags...cars gotta be street legal, run a DOT tire, and they have to drive the 30 miles (in city traffic) from Comp Cams to MMP and then make 3 passes, all on only 10 gallons of 93 octane...the car to make the cruise and have the best 3-run average wins.

I'll have to say it was pretty cool...a tt Viper had the quickest ET/MPH with a 8.62@166(!), but only managed 3rd overall...34 Ford street rod took home the trophy with an 8.84 average ET. Saw a SWEET '66 Chevelle that was running high-8s, and if I'm not mistaken was the only stick car in the field...loved hearing him bang another gear while his front wheels were still off the ground! Also a sweet '64(?) Rambler 4-door (black & super straight) that was in the hunt until his last run until he blew the tires away and could only manage a high 9. A '70 TA finished 2nd, but didn't get to see if he was actually running Poncho power. Oh, and just as we were leaving a Mazda RX-7 with an LS-1 that broke on the cruise, finally got the car going and made a pass...his evening ended when he t-boned the wall on a 9.50@130+ pass!

Lots of blowers, and lots of NOS. Absolutely amazing to see these cars making a half hour or better cruise in traffic, then knocking down these kinds of numebrs!

I'm telling ya, it was impressive! Some sweet, sweet rides were there, but for some insane reason I left the camera at home! DOH!! I still can't get over hearing that Chevelle bang the gears...BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! Yep, 5-speed!

Hot Rod is planning a similar type event later in the year (Sept. 11-16). 5 tracks, in 5 days...the cars have to drive from 1 track to the other, and best 5 track average wins...they're gonna start at KCIR & believe and end up at US131. Anything the cars will need over the course of the week has to fit in the car, or a trailer towed by the car. I bet you could cram lots of stuff in that turbo'd Nova wagon that went low 9's above! (he was running an I6 out of the new Trailblazer with a hairdryer hung on it)

5 track in 5 days! Goodness, someone is going to have to be ready to replace some parts and run there guts out. Are they going to have any tuning runs at each track? I can just imagine trying to tune and hook on 5 different tracks! I am afraid someones brain will explode before it is all said and done. KCIR you say! Will definately have to be at that event!

Rusty: I *believe* they are doing it the week of Stanton...they'll start @ KCIR on Monday, then I *think* I heard they're ending at US131 (Martin) on that Friday...so you could almost run all those events but instead of finishing at Martin finish with us in Stanton instead!

Talk about having kittens! I was nervous enough running from KC to Stanton and racing for 2 days. I am sure that the State of Missouri would not look kindly on me running Historic tags all over the US. Been there, done that, I am getting a trailer this year!
