Default Vin sequence question

I hear a lot of talk about mismatches between date codes and VIN sequences.I currently own 2 1973 F bordies and recently dismantled another. Here is what I have found. All are Norwood built cars, the first is my 73 camaro which was built in the first week of november 72,and the last 6 digits are 108,600.The second is my Firebird which was built in the last wek of november 72,and has VIN 103,123,and the last is the car I dismantled which is a firebird built in the 2nd week of november 72 and was vin 111,xxx.I dont remember the last 3.The camaro is an odd car out as far as the other numbers, but both the firebirds were identical 350 2 barrel espirts.I just find it interesting how different te 3 vin numbers are for such close date codes.

Default Re: Vin sequence question

1st of all, you can't compare VIN sequence between Camaros and Firebirds. Even though one might have followed the other down the final assembly line, they carried their own unique final assembly (VIN) numbers. As for the two Firebirds that seem out of sequence with each other, I would be concerned that one of them may have been tampered with - OR - the 111 car had a major structural problem found with the body, and it took 2 weeks (figure about 500 cars per day)to fix it before it could rejoin the "line" and be assigned the later VIN.
