Muscle Cars
New Challenger to Debut in Detroit ![]() Could this concept Challenger become a reality? Hard to say, but at least its chances at a revival are better than the Plymouth ’Cuda's. photo courtesy DaimlerChrysler Most people screamed bloody murder when Chrysler brought back the Charger with four doors and no resemblance to the tire-smoking Chargers of yesteryear. (Though it is faster, far more comfortable, more reliable and gets decent fuel mileage if you keep your foot out of it.) Nevertheless, last May, Hemmings Muscle Machines Associate Editor Daniel Strohl was told face-to-face by Chrysler execs at the 2006 Charger introduction that a two-door muscle car wasn't happening. Well, how things change. Perhaps seeing a chance to gain additional ground on GM, which is slowly sinking into oblivion, Chrysler has announced it is unveiling a 2006 Dodge Challenger concept. Looking incredibly like the gorgeous original 1970 model, the new car features rubber bumpers, which are the norm today with chrome likely never to return. However, stylists have done an admirable job of incorporating the distinctive Challenger trademarks: the rear fender kick, wide-mouth front end, functional hood scoops and those awesome rectangular exhaust tips, that were actually split in two, unlike the wide single outlet on its brethren: the 1970 and 1971 ’Cuda. Chrysler says the concept will debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January. - By George Mattar Have heard that if she goes to production the big hemi (425 hp) will be available with (hold on to your hats) the pistol grip shifter hooked up to a manual tranny! Such radical thoughts - there couldn't possibly be a market for this, could there ![]() ![]() ![]() Does this beast stir anyone's soul? ![]()

It looks to flat in the front end.
The rear resembles a Firebird. Are those Camaro IROC rims? |

O.K. Rick, so its not the rebirth of the Chevelle. Though, I am sure they were able to save some money by using left over inventory of the IROC and 'bird.

Could MOPAR have another winner in the near future? It sure looks like it, if this Challenger goes into production. WOW!!
My Dad currently owns two MOPAR Hemi's. A 2005 Chrysler 300C, and the Dodge 1500 4X4 pickup. He is very happy with both. He always owned Chevrolets in the past. I tell ya, that 300C with the Hemi is a screamer. ![]()

No doubt about it. I like the look of this Challenger over a new Mustang... Hmm. I might be walking into the nearest Dodge dealer..
Can they throw all-wheel-drive in there to. ![]()

I'm not even a mopar fan but that spy photo looks cool as heck. I'm telling you right now, if this alleged "secret unveiling" camaro concept or whatever it is that GM has planned in January isn't anything less than spectacular, they might as well nail the coffin shut. That challenger makes the new Mustang look weak IMO...

Bringing the Challanger back and styling it close to the original, if sales go well, maybe it will inspire GM to get into the pony car race and bring back the Camaro!!!!!

The tail is weak....looks like late 60's T'Bird....needs a good spoiler? . Although similar to the Challenger, the grille looks bad too....like leftovers from the 80's Dakota trucks? . The whole characture look is somewhat like the 'Mopars on LSD style' of the "Rapid Transit" show cars....wonder what stripes will happen? . The black car looks better w/ it's '71 Cuda style grille and fender gills. ~ Pete
