"Clean Ronnie" Sox (aka Mr. 4-speed) was not only one of the greatest gear pullers who ever lived but a great person and a hero. He will be missed, I saw him at York last year, he showed up even though he was ill.

No one ever rowed a 4-speed like Ronnie Sox.

RIP "Mr. 4-speed"...

I talked with Buddy Martin last fall at the East Coast Drag Reunion and he mentioned that Ronnie's health was failing. I looked him in the eye and he said "it ain't good".

Remembering back thru all the years that I watched him work his magic with a 4-speed here in NC and up/down the East coast. He was always just a 'Good Old Boy' to me. My only regret is I never got his autograph.

Rest in Peace with a 4-speed Ronnie.

-------I had the opportunity to match race Ronnie once and it is a memory I treasure. This is a man who truly led an unbelieveably exiting life at times and gave many of us a peek inside the world of drag racing. I wonder how many guys knowingly or unknowingly owe thier own drag racing experiences to Ronnie. I know I dreamt of being able to shift like him (something I failed to even get close to doing). He will be missed!!!........Bill S

After hearing of Sox's death I instantly remembered one of my favorite magazine covers ever. This is the February 1968 HOTROD cover... I wasn't born when this came out... and my Father was merely four months old. But even some of us "newborns" that are under 30 and never lived the muscle car age still obsess over such amazing machines and their drivers. But for me I guess thats what happen when the first car you ever drove was a 1968 440 Charger with a 4spd..

RIP ronnie! and don't blow the tires before I get up there!
