Just don't understand why anyone would remove a legitimate X33 tag to put on a fake X33 tag. Hope he at least saved the original. However, once it has been off the car..... the car will always be questioned. Probably does not care what we think as bidding is over 70k.

I think the TT removal is a common practice among the restoration crowd. The tag is quite fragile, and if the car will subjected to agressive treatment, sometimes it makes sense to remove it for safekeeping. I left mine on, but covered it with duct tape. In hindsite, it probably would have been smarter to remove it

I think GM has been again an unwitting partner in what we are seeing today.
I believe that GM should have required that repo parts that have been "blessed" by them, have a special designation in the part number to indicate a repo part. Do you think this would have hindered the ability to clone cars and pass them off as originals?

I had a car restored by a very well known company that not only removed the Trim Tag, but they put a fake tag on the car. They didn't even get the info right. Needless to say I am in a bitter fight with them right now... be very careful with who you do business with and make sure you ask questions. If I had known this was thier pactice I never would have used them. They won't even return my original trim tag to me.

That has to be as illegal as hell! Don't let them get away
with that or it will happen to others too. BTW, how did you determine that your original trim tag was replaced? Less the original to compare against, how did you make the connection? |

I have owned the car for 15 years or so and I took detailed pictures on the car before sending it to them. I have several pictures of the original trim tag on the car. Needless to say I won't even take the car out to local shows. I am quite embarrassed / pissed. This Company is supposed to be one of the best and I have seen lots of thier cars at shows and for sale and I will always question thier work/ethics. I can't say more until my issue is resolved but be very careful. I know other members on this site have used them to restore cars or bought cars from them.

I will post the name of the company when I reach a settlement with them. There is no worse feelign than having real car forever questioned beacuse some idiots doing a restoration took your real tag off and replaced it with a fake.
