Why does the vin tag look all beat up? Or is it just the quality of the picture?

It's just the pic, it was getting dark so I just snapped a few quick photos.

I've seen three other documented Corvettes with this color combination. Very rare and pretty combination and I have no idea why it was not available.

I think you really would like to see a tank sheet, window sticker, or warranty plate. I'm sorry, but I can't tell anything conclusive with the motor or trim tag pictures. Certainly not enough to make a decision that would cost you thousands of dollars. I'm going to be out most of the day today, I'll PM my cell number to you.

Trim tag looks like an orig to me......
Orig to this car? Tough question.

I will try to get some better pics of the stamp/TT/Vin. Trying to get in touch with the owner. What is the car worth as is/finished paint/no docs? If I can get under that price I may try and swing the deal anyway. I love 67 vettes and that is one of the best color combos.

Dave, that's a tough question because without factory paperwork, the value of the rare color lies completely with the trim tag. You really need a trim tag expert to inspect it in person to be sure. If it's not a real trim tag, the car is now worth much less than a true silver/red car or even any color combination. I will tell you this with certainty, the trim tag really needs to be inspected in person by an authority, pictures will just not do the trick on an issue that can mean ten's of thousands of dollars. The pad pictures are critical for the same reasons, the real engine will add thousands to the value of the vehicle. It's kind of like asking for a doctors cancer diagnosis over the internet, he really needs to see the patient in person and do the appropriate tests to make the correct call. Personally, if the car were in my backyard, I'd want to have one or two knowledgeable friends look at the car, I wouldn't trust my own opinion 100%. I've been receiving some calls to look at various cars and verify the correctness of the engine for potential buyers and I think this is lawsuit city, I prefer not to make that kind of call for a potential buyer. I know that I can be fooled and have been in the past. I just can't see making a judgment call for someone so far away when longtime experts have trouble verifying originality and correctness in a judging situation.

I wish I could offer more definite information, to have the car inspected opens the car to other eyes and puts it at risk of being bought out from under you. If the car is just offered so cheap that you can't go wrong, then jump on it. I noticed the rivets on the ID plate look good, but again, a shaky picture. Years ago when cars were cheaper and forgery wasn't so prevalent, you could purchase at somewhat face value, but not today. I know of a Corvette for sale here in town that some widow is selling and it has an ID plate from a passenger car under the dash. I've been asked numerous times by potential buyers from various parts of the country to go look at the car and tell them what I think. I want nothing to do with any part of verifying that car and I hate that some widow is selling a shady car after her husbands tragic and untimely death. I saw the car shortly after he bought it eight years ago and told him to reverse the sale, he didn't.

-------I agree with all Tim has said. However, putting aside the color issue, you are starting with the most desirable combo out there right now. 327/350s with AC and the other options I spotted are HOT, HOT, HOT. Vette guys still look at them as being somewhat affordable and they are looked upon as wonderful drivers with some snap. If this car is correct and finished NCRS style its value could probably lie somewhere around the $90,000 range. Dont forget that you may have to spend some to get to that point. I have a friend in California who will travel that does Corvette verifications. He is an acknowledged expert and will absolutely tell you weather the car is a restamp and weather the ID and color tags are original and really isnt that expensive when you consider the alternative (fraud of some sort). His ethics are above reproach, and he has saved a few guys from big, big mistakes. E-mail me for his contact info if needed.........Bill S

Back in 1867 a Corvette customer spotted a 1967 427 coupe which was silver with a red interior. He liked the color combination and went to his local dealer to order a 350HP convertible (with a hardtop only!) in that color combination. The dealer accepted the order and all was well. However Chevrolet kicked the order back and said they could not build that color combination. The buyer noted the 'other' 427 that had been built in that color combination and wanted his Corvette in the same colors. There was much back and forth with Chevrolet and persistence paid off. The buyer got just the Corvette he wanted. The Corvette was delivered in the silver red combination previously refused. Lots of documentation to confirm that car as legit. It was offered at auction a while ago.
The latest find would indeed be a rare piece if the trim tag checks out. It would be interesting to compare the serial number for this car with the Silver/Red Corvette that is authentic and see which one was built first. The authentic car may have paved the way for others... like the Mosport Green 1967 yes 1967 not a typo!
