Default 1970 Firebird Formula 400 - 4 Speed Doc'd 35k mile

1970 Firebird Formula 400 - 4 Speed

http://www.69lm1.com/70f400/

All #'s Match - Engine (rebuilt), Transmission and Rear (Born With).

35,XXX ORIGINAL MILES

Original owner still around and available to talk to. Car was purchased here in Louisiana and has been in this area all of it's life.
Original owner kept meticulous records, all in a 70's style notebook. Every oil change, every performance add on. He sold the car
to his nephew in the mid-late 70's and the nephew kept up the entries in the notebook. In the early 80's he lost the notebook for about a year, then found it. That new entry starts off "Found Notebook, took Formula to the World of Wheels......." Then, in 1984, the last entry on two pages "Doing burn outs at World of Wheels, ^&%*@'ed up. ---- #7 Cyl - 85psi. Sat it up 5/2" (of 84).

This is where I came in. I bought the car, and sold it to my friend Matt Young. The car was sitting between two bushes and had some rust in the sail panels, but the rest of the car was rust free. There was also a dent in the drivers door. Matt purchased a donor firebird and had all the quarters replaced with metal from the donor car. No reproduction metal anywhere on this car.

All of the trim, bolts, nuts and associated parts were "bagged and tagged" and are inventoried for when the car is put back together.

The engine went to a local machine shop and has been repaired and rebuilt to factory specs (email Matt for more details) and is ready to go. The transmission is in good working order, but should be gone through, same with the rear.

The original owner and his nephew, as you can see, kept very meticulous records.

Matt would like $18,000.00 OBO for this unique and original Formula 400

Is the car finished now or is that the way it sits?

No, it's in primer. Body and engine are done.

Yes, the notebook is very cool. Especially where the uncle writes that he is selling his car to the nephew, then the pause, and then the nephew finding the book. Only outdone with the "#$%^ed up" entry.

Yes, it is an original 12 bolt 3:31 OPEN rear (last year for the 12 bolt in Camaros and Firbirds), but in the early 70's the owner added C Clip eliminators and a Posi unit (and documented in the book!)I'll ask matt to scan that page.

From Matt, this AM, also, I was able to convince him that 18k is a little steep right now in today's prices, so he is open to offers......

Rich,

Here is the third page of the notebook that notes when the posi unit
and
c-clip eliminators were installed on 10/28/76. I also have the receipt
from
Garrard Chevrolet for the posi unit. Also, I looked up the code for
the
rear end. It's a COU, which is a 3.31 gear, 12 Bolt open rear. Now a Posi.

Have a great Thanksgiving.
