Default 1966 Chevelle / Beaumont 3-speed shifter handle

My 1966 Beaumont Sport Deluxe came equipped with a 396 (L34 - 360 hp), a 3-speed floor shift (M13) and console. The car is completely unmolested and original with only 29,000 original miles, but I'm wondering if maybe the shifter handle has been repaired or replaced at some time because the shifter handle angles down and to the right. Given that the angle points the shifter away from the driver, I tried flipping it but that only points it too close to the dash which definitely isn't right.

I found this photo of a similar equipped car, and it appears this shifter is angled down and to the left... towards the driver.

I suspect the shifter handle should be angled down and to the left... can someone please confirm?
