Default Granatelli Chevrolet Monte Carlo magazine car for

Hello,

For sale 1978 Chevrolet Monte Carlo modified from new by Granetelli Motorsports back in the late 70s, equipped with a 535ci tall deck BBC, switch pitch turbo 400 and 9" Ford mounted on original GM linkages. Car sits on 15" center line wheels and has bigger sway bars and Koni shocks of the period.

Car was featured in Feb 1980 Car Craft Magazine under the headline on ‘Monte Carlo's Flying Circus’ (article attached). I bought the car sometime back in the 90s and have owned it since then, unfortunately when I purchased it tall deck 535 ci motor had been removed and subsequently lost. My intention was to fit a 454 in it's place but life got in the way and the project stopped. But at least the car was garaged and saved.

Condition of car is what I would describe as very good. As you can see in the pictures, it’s been sitting now for 15 odd years and needs a good clean. Originally a black car, the current silver and candy blue two tone paint is showing its age, but still has a glossy finish. Only rust on the car is around the tinted glass electric retractable sun roof. No holes just surface rust, but does need repair. There is a slight ding on the left hand front fender and slight paint loss and a ding the the hood where it looks like it’s been dropped (or something on it), but this has not affected the hood’s shape in any way.

Car has under 6000 miles on the speedometer which I have no reason to disbelieve. Mildly customized interior with grey velour (for want of a better description) inserts in seats and door trims. Interior is like new but obviously needs cleaning. Phone is very cool.

As I mentioned, the motor is no longer with the car, ended up in a ’57 Chevy and was drag raced until it expired. The Kilgore switch pitch comes with the car, it has been disassembled but was in good shape. Needs a rebuild now, but all parts are there. 9” rear is a 31 spline unit with traction lock and 2.70:1 (ish) gears.

I’m not after gold for this car, I mainly would like to see it go to a deserving home and it would be great to see it running again. One slight complication is that the car is located in the U.K (England), so the deserving new owner would have to consider shipping costs if it were to leave the U.K.

Like I said, I’m not after gold, just want to see the car saved and that is why I’m posting the car for $5,000. I’ve posted on this forum as I believe it will best cater to this car’s needs. If you really want this car, I’m open to offers and can help with shipping if required.

Please feel free to call with any questions,

Thank you,

Graham (based in California).
