Annie sent along the message below and asked that I post it for her...
To My Wonderful New "Car" Family, OK guys, here goes: I know my thanks have been a longtime coming but because I promised a special someone I would stand tall, I could not allow myself to get mushy until certain things were taken care of. Many thanks are owed to many people. Dennis was very lucky to have met and become friends with such a wonderful group of individuals. He truly thought of each of you as brothers. And now you have shown me why. Each and every one of you has contacted me in some way or another, none will ever know how much that has meant to me. My thanks go out for the beautiful flowers and planters you have sent, the memorial donations, the cards and letters, the phone calls and offers of assistance, your presence at the service. All have meant the world to me! I have very few of your home addresses, if you would please send those to me I will be able to write proper thank you notes. Although March 2nd was an odd day for me, I am very glad to have been a part of it. Dennis must have been smiling from ear to ear, especially during the awesome "smokies" ! Thanks go to Mr. Murphy for allowing Dennis' cars to be there and for including me in the day. Misers Cumby...talk about a couple of White Knights! They were responsible for getting the cars there and back home safely. Mayor Brown, thank you for organizing things, keeping and eye on things and keeping the eyes and ears of your local police force turned the other way. Not to mention helping to push two particular cars. Arlan, thank you for the use of your building. Kenny, Matt and Dennis C, thank you for putting together the memorial for Dennis, your efforts and kind words were greatly appreciated. I was not aware of the decals. I think Dave Belk mentioned the idea first and team "MurphyCumby" ran with it. I was and still am speechless and very touched. Special thanks go to my extended family, The Ladies Gibb, as always, gracious hostesses. By the way...Mr. Barker, since you always seem to attract the attention of the local police force, the next time you visit LaHarpe, call me first. We will meet and you may hide in my trailer or the trunk of my car or wherever; somehow we will sneak you in to town. Most of all I would like to thank each and every one of you for the incredible out pouring of concern and the overwhelming compassion each of you has demonstrated toward me. Your phone calls and offers to help or to listen or answer my questions have been one of the most incredible experiences!! I feel as though this wonderful human wall has been formed around me. Somehow the group has managed to keep the tire kickers and the strangers away from me. Not once has my phone number been given out without my knowledge. I will never be able to thank all of you enough for stepping in and assuming a Big Brother role. (Sorry to give up a secret but that includes you too Barnhart) All of you have simply blown me away with your astounding kindheartedness and I am forever grateful! Thank you one and all. Take Care and Drive Safe, Annie |
