Default 442 intake gasket

I have a buddy with a 1971 442, it is currently leaking oil from the rear of the intake so next week we are going to put on a new "turkey tray" and get rid of the small rubber end gaskets in lieu of some permatex. My question is how does this turkey tray install? Do I use some type of sealant between it and the head surface or just get the surface really clean, lay down the tray then put permatex on the ends? I have never installed one of these before, but I am guessing they are better than fel pro's as they might keep some of the hot oil off of the bottom of the intake???
