As I read the ad, I have a few concerns. Yes, Don was married to Patti, but less then 18 years. At the time of Don's death, they were divorced, which is why Terri and Lynn, Don's daughters, inherited everything, not Patti. Last, but not least, the jackets look pretty bare of any patches, tags, etc, that adorned all of the jackets and suits I have seen of Don's.
They could be legit, but I would want want more then a few documents, (I am assuming unrelated to the suits), as proof the suits are legit.

I wonder about the history of this suit. The manufacturer shown may have made it for display only as Hinchman Racing Uniforms in Indy made the suits for the BFG team, Don, John Greenwood, Dick Smothers, Tony A- Z. I have all of their measurement cards at my office, as I handle sales & marketing of Vintage suits for Hinchman. If you look in my book " The Yenko Era " you will see Don's & Dick's cards in the races and racecars section.

I would still have a lawyer send a letter threatening legal action if they do not comply with the winning bid, also advise you will go public with it. That will not be worth the aggravation for the $800.00 alleged buyer either.

Update...after over 2 weeks of corresponding with ebay, I get this in response.
Dear Erik, Thank you for writing eBay in regard to your seller who failed to complete the transaction. We wanted to let you know that we've thoroughly investigated the matter and have taken appropriate action -- depending on all the circumstances, this could range from a warning to terminating the seller's membership. Due to concerns about privacy, we can't discuss one member's account with another member, so I'm not able share the results of our investigation with you. I hope this assures you that your account history will also remain private. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Serina eBay Customer Support So as far as I can tell the seller's account is still active on ebay, and there doesn't seem to be much else I can do short of taking legal action. Please watch for this one to be offered for sale elsewhere...the seller seems like a real piece of work. ![]() |

I'm just making a guess here, but IMO if you look at the seller's feedback on the items they have sold, it appears to be small money items. It would indicate to me that it is not someone with a bank account they are prepared to share or give up to an attorney for a litigation over this. I think it would be beneficial if you really want this item to have an attorney send a letter with the threat of litigation if they do not honor the sale.
