In the early 70s, a guy in my neighborhood had two crate engines for sale. One was a complete (long block) DZ engine and the other was a long block L88. He wanted $3,500.00 for the DZ and $5,000.00 for the L88. I remember wanting to buy the DZ for $2,500.00 and he wouldn't take it. I should have bought the L88. I imagine the DZ is now worth $5k-8K and the L88 is probably $10K-15K. JMO, Ed

Bought a 1970 LT-1 short block from Wolfington Chevy for $395.00 in 1972. Bought a pair of angle plug heads (early castings) from Shaws Speed Shop in 1972 also for $212.00. So with the 750 double pumper and Tarantula intake I was still around a $1000.00 or less. Car ran 12.00's on the street with a 4:10 gear. Chevy really had the stuff in those days.
