I've seen that car & another Black 70 Copo Z. Both cars are L.A. Cars the one i saw in 2006 at the Camaro Nats. actually had 2 build sheets 1 showing it was painted copper & the 2nd is for when it was re-ran through the paint dept. & documented being painted over in black. If you looked real close in some of the trunk areas & tight corners of the car you can see the copper. I'm not sure the mileage or anything else on the car but i know Phil Borris was all over it just as i walked up to check it out. I'm not sure if any L.A. cars would end up at Curry or if his Zone would only put him as getting Norwood built cars, not sure how that works.

----I bought a 73 Z in 1975 from the original owner. He said he tried like h ell to order a black Z and the dealer kept saying it couldnt be done. He wanted a black RS Z/28 so bad that he ordered a dark green one and had it painted black with no stripes immediatly. Really liked that old car while I had it.......Bill S

That dealer just didn't know what they were doing. I personally know of two factory black 73 Z28's. They were indeed a special order, but it could be done.

Also, my friend Rick had ordered a new black 70 Camaro SS396, L78....the dealer kept giving him the runaround saying they were having a hard time getting it. He finally gave up and bought a FG 70 Nova SS396 L78 off the lot. Never did find out if it was the L78 or the black paint that was the holdup on the Camaro. The same Rick is one of the two people I knew who ordered - and received - the black 73 Z28's.

Exactly Bill. A good friend of mine had a Special Order all Black '73 Z. I contacted Phil (70 COPO) about that car a couple of years ago.

I have a pic of his '73 & my Chevelle sitting together in my back yard. ( somewhere.)

Here's one picture I have of one of the two black 73 Z28's that I know of. It was an automatic with factory air. That's it parked in front of my LeMans blue 69 Nova SS, circa 1976.

Dennis, this picture was taken in Virden, IL....your neck of the woods!

And here's the only picture I have of the other one, that my friend Rick owned....that's it behind the maroon one and the white one. It was a Type LT/Rally Sport/Z28, 4 speed. My friends and I bought a total of eight new 73 Z28's, and these are 4 of them. Picture taken circa 1973 at Don's Union 76 station, North Aurora, IL.

Not at all, Darren....hope that the folks there enjoy it as well. I'm actually registered there but rarely visit anymore.
