1968 Mustang Fastback S-Code, 4spd...RUSTY!
Man, I really dig this car when done. Much like my old Highland Green one, it hits the “wow” buttons; GT, S-Code, 4spd, Acapulco Blue, AM/FM, and numbers matching!!
All day long a very worthwhile car to do, but man, “RustStang” just isn’t an adequate description of this one. I chatted with the seller about it and he sent some photos of the underside. Well, I should say, what’s left of the underside https://www.ebay.com/itm/1968-Ford-M...-/184025688887 The amount of rust replacement needed would turn this car into an import Cheers Dave |

When I was in high school, a buddy and I rebuilt (well, rings, rod bearings, and sent the heads out) his 390 4V engine with it in the car. It ran fine, but what a PITA. I remember using a universal socket on a few head bolts with a torque wrench. What a couple of morons (yeah, none of you guys ever did anything stupid in high school). Stayed together with no leaks long enough to sell it.

speaking of stupid in high school, We were probably a year or 2 out. My buddy and his dad had matching 70 chevelles with 350hp 396s. My buddy kept taking his intake off and going to the swap meets to find the factory one. Finally his intake gaskets leaked. So he decides to run some kerosene in the engine instead of oil to flush it out. I went over and helped him pound the lifters out with a big hammer.
Now he denies that happened but I wont forget how messed up that camshaft was. It looks like the mustang is at a show. As rusty as that is I wonder how safe it is to drive

Not to high jack your thread Dave, but speaking of funny stuff you did in high school.
My buddy and I were putting a set of headers on his 72 Plymouth Scamp with a 318 engine and thought we really damaged something when we removed an exhaust manifold bolt and saw antifreeze pouring out. I was a Chevy guy and never saw anything like that LOL. I had to make a telephone call to my boss at the gas station who advised us that there was a water jacket that passed through and to just put some sealant on the header bolt and run it back in. I also remember having to take the torsion bar apart to fit the headers. Then we went out cruising the streets with a set of turbo mufflers attached directly to the headers hanging under the floor boards. We couldn't hear each other talk in the car but we had lots of fun... LOL.... Rich

This car deserves a proper restoration. Use as many NOS parts as possible and cut parts off a rustfree donor car, then repro parts as needed.

It’s pretty rusty alright, but will be restored as it should be.... Sold for $18,500.
