Hmm, it doesn't sound like the 14066235 (73-81) fork will work without modification based on this post: https://www.camaros.net/threads/clut...rewall.200119/
I went down and looked at my 621 bellhousing and fork destined for my 69 SS350 and measured the fork (no numbers on it ![]()

Yes, the Z28 did get the 403 bell for 10.5 clutch and shorter fork.
Are you keeping the bearing centered on the fork ends, or pushing all the way back ? It needs to be balanced on the ends and the spring holds it there until the trans is installed and it rides on the input collar.
