Default Re: LS6 Chevelle a supercar?

Speaking as an owner of another stock LS-6, I'll have to say No, they're not SUPERCARS. Those '70 Baldwin Motion Phase cars (I, II, or III) based on an LS-6 definitely would have to be considered so, but we will have to take pride in the fact they're only Super Cars!

The Clary's allowed me to bring my car to the reunion last year due to the fact I bought it new at Fred Gibb, and the reunion was dedicated to Gibb cars in 2001. I felt truly honored to be allowed in such company. I hope it didn't send the wrong message to some who attended. I was in no way trying to pass the car off as something it isn't. Charlie Biele had his (at the time)Black LS-6 Convert there too and waited until late in the morning to bring it inside, allowing space for the true SC's.

Wow, Dennis you bought your LS6 new from Gibb Chevy?! That is so cool that you still have it. Did you meet Fred? Could you describe it? Did you race it? Any vintage pics? Sorry for all the qustions I just really appreciate original owner cars when they still have them.

Dennis, I don't think you need to apologize! That was indeed an honor and one to be prowd of. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe you are in possesion of 1 of 4 Fred Gibb muscle cars still owned by the original owner, certainly something to be excited about! Now for a little teaser, post those 1970 drag strip pictures of your car. Frank,
The whole reason I bought at Gibb's was Fred and Herb Fox. They used to bring Little Hoss to the drag strip where I worked. We even had the ZL-1 that Bill Porterfield now owns at the little 1/8 mile strip a few times.
Check your e-mail for details.
Rick, according to 68TopStock there are three known original owners. Ray Morrison with his '68 Gibb/Harrell 427 Chevy II, Ken Barnhart with the #16 ZL-1 and us. The key word is "known". If there are others, please step forward. I know Ken would love to hear from you.

Dennis,

Just curious - was the 1/8th mile drag strip you're referring to at White Hall? I was there a couple times in the fall of 69 and/or spring of 70.

Hey Bill. You got a neighbor here. I haven't seen that SS Chevelle running around. Nice car! Where have you been hiding it. -Darren

Bill,
That's the one. We used to run on dirt and made more money than we could spend. Finally built an asphalt track and lost money from day one. Had loads of fun though so it was all worth it. What were you running at the time?

Dennis,

As I recall, when I was there, the track was paved but the shutdown area (or at least a portion of it) was not. Does that sound right?

At the time, I was going to college in the area. I was not running anything, just came there with a friend from Virden IL who had a white 65 Nova SS with a built small block, 4 speed, and 5.38 gear. That car was a lot of fun on the street!

Mostly correct. It was an 1/8 mile strip and the shutdown was another full 1/8 mile but ran downhill about 200 feet past the finish line. Beyond the end of the asphalt was another 3-400 feet of gravel, then a long left hand curve back to the return road. We had a real nice pond down in that area too. A couple of guys thought their cars were part submarine, but that's a whole other story!
