Default Fraud Epidemic on E-Bay

Has anyone noticed the sudden increase in 3 day listings, pre-approved bidding linked to Yahoo e-mail accounts, $5900 Buy it Now options on 69 Z28's, international sellers, and strange/bogus auctions? The Camaro section seems to be the hardest hit. These auctions are getting pulled by E-Bay but are back up and relisted within hours. They used to be easier to spot cause the prices were so stupidly low, but its getting harder to tell a good deal from a scam.

boy, i'll say !! i almost bought a l-88 vette just 2 days ago! i thought the guy selling it had to have some money quick since he was selling it so cheap.
it was a "pre-approved" item and the first to send him the deposit was the winner.
i almost got taken in my excitment of a great deal.
live and learn !!

walks like a duck.... the best way to prove the seller is genuine is to call them and have a conversation. I would also use this web site as a resource, I am sure many of the guys on here woudln't mind checking out a car. Mind you someone like me isn't a professinal but I could make sure the seller really has the car.......

I'm sure its been discussed before. How about auto shops supplyng date coded blocks re-stamped to what ever vin# you want on it. I feel for the guy buying a car thinking he's buying an original #'s matching car and being totally scammed. Not everyone can spot these re-stamps. Patrick

Hey its not just ebay its also some supposedly "reputable" classic car dealers. 3yrs back when i was doing the restoration on my 62 fuelie i had the correct date coded non original block with a blank pad the machine shop that did the motor build for me stamped the pad with all the correct numbers for an extra $100 and it was itemized on my bill. i traded the car back to the same dealer that sold it to me when I bought my 98 convertible that i now have. I included with the car all the reciepts for the engine rebuild which documented the restamp and the dealer and i discussed what a nice job the shop did on the numbers. I later found out he resold the car and claimed the motor was the original engine because the new owner tracked me down and i told him it was a restamp. He was so pissed last i heard he was sueing the dealer.

They've been going on for months and months. We tried tracking them over on www.camaros.net but the reports of them were over running the forums...

Gents,

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Buy nothing 'sight unseen'.

Scams abound on Ebay which is nothing but a bad joke! Make the time to attend car shows and swap meets. Recently, a obsure Yenko was found in this manner. Never know what you might find!

I checked and these "scam" auctions were listed about six in a row. Now you would look on here and think the guy was unloading a collection at blow out prices every 4 days!!
