Here is the "Rest of the story" , as Paul Harvey would say:
I was at the Goodguys show , since it is about 20 miles from me. I brought my 67 GT500 (see it in the Member's Rides section) , and my friend brought his 70 Orbit Orange RAIV 4 speed Judge. Both of our cars were displayed with all the paperwork proving they were real, etc. Saturday we were informed that we had to come back Sunday , because we won "big awards". So , of course , you can imagine our suprise when we got the "Ford Muscle" and " Sensational Seventies" awards , and didn't even place for the "Muscle Car of the Year" award. Nothing against the cars that did place, but they were pretty questionable. A 68 GT350 that the owner admitted was painted 10 years ago and he someday "was going to undercoat it and clean up the undercarriage" (automatic car, lots wrong), the 70 GT500 was very nice , a little lacking in body work, but it had "eyes", the CLONE Yenko that the owner may admit now is a clone, but during the show and even during his acceptance speech raved about how real it was and how rare Yenkos are!!, the 68 Camaro was pretty but had radial tires and sat all wrong, like it had air shocks with 200 psi in them, and it was an off color. I have to say that the final picks (and the clone winning) was somewhat odd. The cars were nice , but there were better cars there. If I had a nickel for everybody that came by my GT500 and said that it was hands down the best car there I could at least buy a bratwurst . And I heard a lot of people grumbling about the clone. All this just confirms that I need to try harder to avoid these shows where the picks are purely political and the judges have the slightest clue as to what they are looking at. I am just glad the Yenko owner finally fessed up. It was a good looking car , but c'mon , if that is what we were in it for we would all build clones. There is something to be said about having a real car. It is history. And I am also proud to say that while 99.9% of the other cars at the show were being loaded in and out of trailers all weekend, our two cars were commuting back and forth each day ! One tank of race gas per trip in the GT500 ! ![]() So now you know "the rest of the story" - or at least my version! Colin ![]() |

Colin, I agree, that sucks... And what is sad, you are not the first to suffer the same fate. Many of us supercar owners have been down the same road, from some of the top shows in the country. That was the reason for SCR1, to provide at least one show a year where owners could display their car(s) without the usual games. And, thankfully, since SCR1, other shows, Gibb, York, Berger, have begun providing similar venues to showcase our cars.
I was once told at a large Chevy show that I could not compete for best Camaro, as I had a Yenko, not a Camaro. What is a shame, the public is the one who pays when this type of thing happens, becasue, as you said, you will avoid these shows in the future.

Goodguys is not very concerned with numbers cars..stuff like the skull thingy that Charley posted is their bread and butter...the Camaro must have been nice and who knows..maybe mis-represented to the judges...plus I heard from reliable people that they knew the scrawny geek with the GT500 was Colin and they couldn't have a picture of him associated with Goodguys for fear of scaring people away.

But Gags, I had my pants on - how did they know I was scrawny ? Oh wait, I thought I saw your old lady there. Can you please tell her to bring my shoes back? I had no idea you were such a good runner. Still sorry about all that

Tom,
I like your Yenko story. I had a similar problem with my 69 Hurst/Olds at a show last year. The guy classing the cars put me in with the 442s. I told him that a H/O was NOT a 442, and that I should be properly placed in another class. He decided to show me how much he knew and looked square at the mailbox on the hood and said "Listen, if you've got that 442 cubic inch engine, you are a 442. It says so right on your hood!" I threw it in reverse and went home. I couldn't argue with logic like that! I am just glad he didn't see any correlation between the "HO" on the hood and my girlfriend in the pasenger seat ! ![]() Colin |

I saw the clone Yenko at that show. It was nice looking and clean but anyone that knew anything about basic Yenko ID could have picked it out as a clone.
The Orbit Orange GTO was one of my favs!!! Blair

I've heard similar things about GoodyGuys shows.
![]() I imagine the fact that Yenklones are so popular now has something to do with it. Damn The Fast & The Furious II and its producers!!! ![]()

csx289,
You were lucky to even be at a show that had a class for 442's! I have been stuck in some wierd classes with my '69 H/O. In certain shows they almost want to have it in a custom catagory! ![]() ![]()
