That comment about most Nickey cars being ordered with A/C to get the good alternator and radiator was a new one for me. Though its nice to get all of the HD stuff, I hardly think it was worth ordering A/C and then getting that big box on the firewall and the extra ducts in the dash. Unless someone chimes in otherwise, I think that sounds far fetched. It strikes me as a sketchy car to feature, all the evidence sounds anecdotal.

Many, but not all of the Nickey Super Car conversions from later in 1967-1970 were either L78s or Z28s. Most also had factory 4 series posi.
1971-1973 SSs and Z28s were most prevalent. 1974-1977 Just about anything goes. Even 6 cly conversions. I too would like to know where the A/C story came from. It certainly was not a common practice. Hopefully both Don Swiatek and Ronnie Kaplan as well as a few other techs/ Nickey personnel and VIPs, will be at the Fall Vest Fest to answer questions and bench race with the patrons. |
