Default '70 Chevelle shoulder belts

I am looking for a pair of black shoulder belts and all mounting hardware for my '70 SS. I got a $124 ticket for not having them. The same weekend a friend going to the same show received 2 (one for his wife)for $124 each from the same cop for not having his shoulder belts down and clicked!!! All cars built after 1/1/68 must have shoulder belts in Wa. Apparently they have caught all the drug dealers and bank robbers and have nothing better to do. Jim

Bummer!.
Here you may still get dinged if they've been removed, but I think there's something about it having to be the retractable style before you have to use them?. I may be wrong but that's the story I'd be running by the cops if pulled over again or if you want to fight it you should perhaps look into...also the what if it's this vintage ragtop story?.

Good luck!

The way it was explained to me is, you have to have the seat belts in the car if it came with them and you have to use them. If you install seat belts in your 1955 Chev, then you have to use them too. Perhaps someone with a little more Ontario law savy could elaborate a little more. Our son was in an accident in a car that had rear seat belts but no shoulder belts. The belt did a lot of internal damage and he wore a colostomy bag for the rest of that summer. The driver who had shoulder and seat belts was back at work the next day. Dave ended up buying his '69 Chevelle while off work so it wasn't all bad. Moral of the story, use all the belts. They are worth it except for the very rare situation.

I have assisted at more car wreaks than I care to remember but I am telling you your son would have been a lot worse off if he had been ejected from the car from wearing no seat belt. I have seen people hurt because of the seat belts but I have seen many more thrown out windows into oncoming traffic run over by vehicles.

I just got a large quanity of belts from a junkyard. I have a few sets of the shoulder belts. They are all the standard style. Let me know what you need and I too may be able to help you. [email protected]

Thanks
