There are 1 million Americans living up here so I would imagine that a few of them had the same thoughts as you.
I believe that wherever you live in Canada or The States, you pay for the lifestyle in some way. Up here, taxes are a bit higher than most states (not all) and the cold in January - Febuary can be hell. As a teenager, I hated winter but now I'd never live somewhere that didn't have the 4 seasons. Vancouver, British Columbia has warmer winters but you have to be able to handle 2 weeks of straight rain at a time. Florida is warm but you have to worry about getting your house wiped out every couple of years, mid-west is Tornado alley, California has earthquakes and fires. Healthcare is more accessible here than in The States but not necessarily quicker. Prescription drugs is by far cheaper. You are getting screwed by the same companies we buy our drugs from. It's been recently reported that drug companies spend twice as much on promotion and advertising as they do on R&D which throws their whole argument for the high costs out the window. Honestly, what I think you need is a government that is more in tune with Americans than a government that does whatever the F*#$% it wants to.

You guys should have moved 5 years ago when the dollar was worth $1.35 Canuck. Now the greenback won't even buy you a Loonie. Not the right time to move.

But will it be better 5 years from now? Sad to say but 20 years down the road we may be referring to this era as 'the good ol days'.

Last year Toronto has something like 84 murders. Take the drug dealers killing each other out of the equation and things are pretty good for a city of 3+ million people. Health care here in 2006 cost slightly less than $3200 per person. Not exactly cheap, but everyone is covered at least. Where we live, north-east of Toronto, we don't get buried in lake effect snow, and we are far enough south that the winters aren't too bad. Most winter days here are in the mid to high 20s F but for the last couple of days it has been in the low 50s. Not to hard to take. Five months of winter gives you time for the car projects for next year. The only draw back to living here is that we are 500-800 miles away from many of the big Chevelle shows. Feel free to join us. I'm not going anywhere.
