The good news is it looks like there are tags on top of a bucket, not a bucket full.

I don't know of any cases yet in Oklahoma with persons connected on one side or the other of the November, 2007 state law, Oklahoma Statute, but it'd be interesting to read about any circumstances. Note the statue says repro tags can be used if they are stamped REPLACEMENT TAG.
I only wish other states would follow suit to put these sellers of 'novelty' items in jeopardy. I've seen a number of Chevelle reproduction tags from trimtags.com and, for the most part, are like phony window stickers and build sheets, no too hard to spot. |

I was thinking of this guy and his cronies on my way to work this morning and wondered what if we here as a group picked on eBay by daily targeting specific auctions we see listed...one day this joker, the next day another?.
How many report messages from our completely different eBay accounts could eBay stand before they do something when like patterns of resentment against specific auction items consistently flows in daily?. Especially if we're all citing the same Federal and State Laws being broken!. ![]() ~ Pete |

Pete,
Ebay has refused to take a stand on this and put trim tags on their prohibited list. I was hoping they would finally see the light after the OK law was passed. Ebay's reply to me was roughly, "There is no VIN or vehicle-specific information on the trim tag". Of course, we know that's not true, but since cars aren't registered or titled by a body number, that's their loophole. ![]() Verne |

Yes Verne this is eBay's current policy but as in my previous posting, would they view anything differently if the were bombed daily by dozens of different account members voicing similar displeasure for specific items?.
Although the repercussions are great, maybe not enough of these tags actually sell on eBay to make it worth their while if they know they're riding a fine line of legality issues also are consistantly being peppered w/ report messages and obviously pissing off members...especially those who's purchases are substantial?. Besides the problems these loose tags cause when affixed to cars, I can't help but want to try and help put a stop to these idiots popping tags off dead and project cars across the land as the moment they do, they've killed another car that may have been saved and if eBay did reject auctions of them, the sooner it may stop?. Isn't it worth a try or do we just admit defeat, let the carnage of project cars continue and just hope we only read about legal issues that result?. ![]() ~ Pete

Maybe someday, we can only continue to press the issue with eBay. At least they kill auctions containing VINs and that's a start.
Evan Alan Colvin's books say he refuses to publish specific information on accessory codes on trim tags. Some GM tags have specific (and desireable) codes but many do not; some GM lines and plants do have accessory codes such as some (but not all plants) of the 64-67 Chevelle tags. Most of the time these codes are harmless enough and there are some that appear to be plant specific. Reproduction tags do come into play here from time to time such as a 66 L78 convertible initially being sold a couple of years ago. Problem was these codes showed a Powerglide transmission on the trim tag. ![]() While accessory codes can help build a bogus car, it can also find bogus cars like this 66 L78. Many other pieces of information such as engine/transmission casting numbers and dates are readily published to aid the building of a bogus car. BTW, anyone with <u>known</u> data on some 64-67 group option codes for Chevelles, I would like to hear from you. |
